Museo delle Navi Antiche di Pisa
The exhibition of the Ancient Ships of Pisa is set up at the Arsenali Medicei, with more than 800 exhibits displayed in 8 thematic sections. In 1998, during some works at the Pisa San Rossore station, an impressive series of shipwrecks came to light. The archaeologists, digging for almost twenty years, have discovered about thirty boats from the Roman era, many still with their cargo on board, perfectly preserved thanks to the absence of oxygen. Everything has been preserved thanks to complex restoration and conservation interventions. The exhibition is a window on sea life through the centuries, made up of businesses, shipwrecks, men and travel.
